A passenger identified as Saviour Yeboaa was arrested on 14 October 2025 at Ghana’s international airport while preparing to travel to the Netherlands on a KLM flight, according to airport authorities.

Security officials reportedly discovered 28.5 kilograms of gold concealed in the suspect’s luggage during routine screening procedures. Authorities stated that the gold, which had an estimated market value of approximately €3.2 million, was not accompanied by any valid export or ownership documentation.

Airport security personnel immediately detained the passenger for further questioning after she allegedly failed to provide the required permits and customs declarations for transporting the precious metal out of the country.

Following the interception, the suspect and the seized gold were handed over to the Ghana Airport Police for further investigation and possible prosecution. Officials indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the gold and whether the incident is connected to a wider smuggling operation.

Ghana’s laws require strict documentation and authorization for the export of gold and other mineral resources, and violations can attract severe penalties.

Authorities have not yet released further details, and the suspect is expected to face formal charges pending the outcome of police investigations.
